Day 4: Visit to the Pangong Tso Lake
Day 5: Drive to Changla Pass
Day 6: Departure

As we stay in the Southern coastal part of India, we were bored with the hot and humid weather thus we picked Ladakh as our escape. The weather there was chilling and we encountered an almost subzero temperature which was quite hard to bear but we had a fun time enjoying this freezing atmosphere.

While you travel to Leh Ladakh, you’ll witness many attractions that are not to be missed if you’re traveling for the first time. From adventure to sightseeing there is everything to experience.

1. An Exciting Drive To The Magnetic Hills

towards the Magnetic hills

amazed by the beauty of the hills

hall of fame in Ladakh

On the first day, we went to visit the Magnetic hill which was one of the major adventure experiences to tick off from our bucket list. We rented a bullet and drove along our SUV which was an experience that cannot be expressed in words. The hill is surrounded by a picturesque view of the small hills. Enroute this natural marvel we halted at the Gurudwara Pathar Sahib resting on the Leh-Srinagar road. Followed by this we also took a drive towards the confluence of the Zanskar and Indus which was there on the way to Sham Valley. Out of all this, the place which marked a place in our hearts for forever was the Hall of Fame which is a museum maintained by the Indian army which is a place worth visiting. We literally got goosebumps while seeing the Kargil war preparation pictures.

2. Fighting The Fear Of Heights At Khardungla Pass

at Khardungla pass

enjoying the chilling weather

the Deskit Gompa

headed to the Hunder village

visited to monastries

We rented a bullet to drive all the way to Khardungla Pass which is the highest motorable road in the world and driving on this is one of the most adventurous things to do in Leh Ladakh. It was quite a hectic task to drive over the uneven trails but there is no doubt that we enjoyed it to the core. The roads were quite slippery but once we reached the top of the world it seemed all worth it. After gazing at the beauty of Khardungla Pass, we headed towards the Deskit Gompa where we tried meditating there sitting among the monks. After this we headed to the Hunder village to see the Double humped camels roaming around the desert. The last resort of our second was Nubra Valley where we ended our day.

3. Capture The Magnificent Beauty Of Pangong Tso

at the Pangong Tso lake

the crystal clear blue water

had fun at the lake

looking at the natural treasure

crossing the bridge

A Ladakh trip is incomplete without visiting the Pangong Tso lake which is the gem of this hidden valley. Resting at a height of 14000 feet, trust me the pictures can’t just define the beauty of this natural treasure. With the crystal clear blue water which also changes color, this was the place which actually left us feeling enchanted. On the way back we also drove to the Changla Pass which is the second-highest motorable road.

4. Living Like A Local At Thiksey Gompa

visited to attractions of the city

at the Shanti Stupa

druk padma karpo school

Ladakh is truly a home to an abundant number of monasteries and while here we cannot dare to visit one of the famous monasteries. Located at an altitude of 3,600m in the Thiksey village, the architecture of monastery and the peace enveloping it just left us mesmerized. After this, we also visited the Sindhu Ghat from where the Indus river flows through Ladakh prior to entering Pakistan.

In the first two days of our trip, we stayed at the Royal Plaza at Leh which was a 3-star property and equipped with all the amenities. The only problem we had was that there was no room heater and the breakfast was not good. But the staff was quite active and helpful which made our stay less stressful. On the third day of our trip, we shifted to the Sand dunes view resort at Nubra Valley. The cottages were clean but there was frequent power failure which is the biggest problem in the valley. In the last two days, we stayed at the City Palace in Leh which was a 4-star property and provided us with all the amenities required for a comfortable stay.

we are surrounded by hilly areas

The markets in Ladakh are loaded with all kinds of items which are sold by the locals and there are shopping places in Ladakh which are just light to the budget. From Tibetan shawls, sweaters to other small souvenirs to buy, there is a long list of things to buy in Ladakh which actually satisfied my wife’s shopaholic cravings.

  • The magnificent view of the Pangong Tso Lake
  • The beautiful peaks of the Himalayas surrounding the valley
  • The peaceful ambience of the monasteries
  • An adventurous ride to the Khardungla Pass
  • As the valley is prone to sudden avalanches, make sure to keep a check on the weather before visiting Khardungla Pass.
  • People can suffer from high altitude sickness, so make sure to adjust to the climate before going out.
  • Carry your own medicines as there are very less medical shops in the vicinity

Shopping In Sri Lanka – Ayurvedic Products, Spices, Gems & More

priya sri lanka back with friend

If one starts writing down all the things to buy in Sri Lanka, the list will never end. This place is a wonderland for shopaholics like us! We used to lose track of time whenever we set foot inside a market or mall. We ended up buying a variety of products like Sri Lankan herbs and spices and Sri Lankan tea.

The medium sized packets of spices like cinnamon powder and cinnamon sticks that we had bought cost us around INR 800/- per packet in the big cities like Kandy and Nuwara Eliya. Later, we figured that the same spices would have cost us not more than INR 250-300 per packet in smaller remote areas falling on the way.

When we were in Nuwara Eliya, we bought various authentic Ayurvedic products like creams, oils, and lotions from a spice garden. They were a little expensive (INR 1,500 per product), but the superior quality surely made up for it.

The Beaches Of Bentota

the most relaxing moment

I loved the beaches of Sri Lanka, especially the ones in Bentota. While we were these, trodding over that soft, warm sand and looking over the pretty sunsets while sitting on those golden shores used to be the most relaxing thing after a tiring day. If you’re looking for a peaceful and secluded avenue in Bentota, the beaches are the right places to head to.

Stroll, swim, jet ski, or simply get tanned on the sands – you can do whatever you feel like on those beautiful (and mostly secluded!) beaches of Bentota. Another great thing here is that most of the hotels are located right next to the shores, which means all you have to do is pick up a towel and a pair of slippers and walk right down to the beach whenever you feel like.

We had spent an entire day simply relaxing on the private beach of our hotel without a worry in the world, and I feel it’s the most fun and exciting thing to do for water babies celebrating bachelorette parties in Sri Lanka.

A Sojourn In Nuwara Eliya

priya sri lanka giggling with friend

Nuwara Eliya is among the most delightful places to visit in Sri Lanka with friends. Calm, beautiful, and absolutely serene, it’s the perfect kind of place for a mountain and tea lover to explore. We were surrounded by refreshing green foliage no matter which direction we turned our heads to. And the aroma of fresh tea in the air was calling out to “chai” addict in me!

It’s now one of my favorite places since I’m a total nature baby and I loved both the natural and historical aspects of this lush paradise. I and the girls even went cycling by the Gregory Lake which was a truly special moment for us! I would totally want to go back to this haven someday!

Other than nature, one should also not miss out the temples and history of this place. A visit to the Seetha Amman Temple and the Seetha Eliya was both intriguing and soul-soothing at the same time. Even the visit to the Tea Factory was a very knowledgeable experience where we got a tour of the whole tea-making process.

The hill station of Nuwara Eliya provides as a great respite from the otherwise hot and humid weather of Sri Lanka. The weather here is always cool and soothing. In fact, the temperature had even dropped to 12 degree Celcius during the night when we were here, even in the month of April.

  • If you have a Buddha tattoo, do make sure you hide it.
  • Do not wear revealing or too short clothes to the temples.
  • Make yourself a little familiar with the local culture and language before you head out for your trip.
  • Toiletries
  • Sunscreen and sunglasses
  • Comfortable dresses and sturdy footwear
  • A power bank
  • Universal power adaptor
  • Hiking shoes
  • If you’re a vegetarian, make sure you do prior research and make a list of good vegetarian restaurants in Sri Lanka before actually setting off on your trip.
  • Sri Lanka has many more charming places in addition to Bentota and Nuwara Eliya. Have more days at hand so that you can check some out of those out as well.
  • Check the weather of the respective places you intend to visit and pack accordingly. Sri Lanka is a mix of hot tropical beaches and cool hill stations. The temperature could be 40 degrees in one place and 15 in the next.
  • Don’t make a hectic itinerary. Keep time aside for leisure activities and relaxation.
  • The people of Sri Lanka are very friendly and honest. Don’t be afraid to open up and make friends along the way!

Needless to say, TravelTriangle is highly recommended for budget and customized trips. The trip was well within our budget where we could cover everything that we wanted to see in Sri Lanka with ease and comfort. The entire trip and TravelTriangle’s services totally lived up to our expectations.

The hotel staff, as well as our driver-cum-guide, were super friendly. From listening to songs in the car, picking up flowers on the way for fun, to discussing Sri Lanka-India cricket matches, we made beautiful memories on the journey and the cab driver became a good friend.

We hope Priya’s awesome escapade to this tropical heaven with her girls has solved your dilemma on whether or not you should take a vacation to Sri Lanka. Now that you’ve read about all the beautiful experiences it offers, start planning your trip via TravelTriangle for the best deals on customized tours and a comfortable holiday experience within your budget.

We had so many doubts while planning this trip. And now after coming back from it, we feel we are ready to answer them for other travelers out there.
